National Data Platform

SDSC and Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah launched the $6 million U.S. National Science Foundation-funded NDP to create an equitable data ecosystem. The initiative aims to enhance access to open data, fostering innovation and collaboration while addressing global challenges like climate change through AI-integrated solutions.

According to the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot website, the NDP NAIRR demo project bridges the data gaps for AI by offering an online data ecosystem of data services. The initiative works with researchers, educators and students to discover, access and use AI-ready data, execute AI workflows and deploy distributed AI services. The platform promotes collaboration, innovation and equitable data use, enhancing existing research computing investments and facilitating scientific and AI advancements.

The coveted annual BigDATAwire Readers’ and Editors’ Choice Awards are determined through a nomination and voting process with the global BigDATAwire community, as well as selections from the BigDATAwire editors. The awards recognize the companies and products that have made a difference in the big data community this year, and provide insight into the state of the industry. BigDATAwire is the leading publication for news and information covering the operationalization of data science in business, government and industry.

“I’m thrilled to announce the winners of the 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards,” said BigDATAwire Managing Editor Alex Woodie. “This year has been filled with exciting developments from the big data, advanced analytics and AI communities, and it’s my honor to give these vendors the recognition they deserve.”

SDSC’s Chief Data Science Officer, Director of the CICORE Division and NDP Principal Investigator Ilkay Altintas said, “We are deeply honored to receive this recognition for the National Data Platform. This award reflects the dedication of our diverse community of collaborators who share a vision of democratizing access to AI-ready data and computing resources. By lowering barriers to entry, NDP is paving the way for more inclusive and impactful advancements in AI. This recognition inspires us to continue building an ecosystem where data, collaboration and equity drive solutions to science and society's most pressing challenges.”
