The Cyberinfrastructure and Convergence Research (CICORE) Division provides expertise in data science, AI, and advanced computing to partnerships and projects focused on achieving scientific and societal impact.

The CICORE Division is known for its broad expertise in cyberinfrastructure; domain-specific expertise in AI-enabled science; successful partnerships with policymakers, practitioners and industry; and experiential education initiatives.

ACID Lab
The Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Development (ACID) Lab, led by Viswanath Nandigam, harnesses cutting edge cyberinfrastructure to transform data into actionable knowledge and information.
Advanced Query Processing Lab
The Advanced Query Processing Lab, led by Armarnath Gupta, conducts research in semantic information integration, large-scale graph databases, ontology management, event data management and query processing techniques.
Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis
Founded in 1997, the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), led by Kimberly Claffy, conducts network research and builds research infrastructure to support large-scale data collection, curation and data distribution to the scientific research community.
Convergence Research Institute
The Convergence Research (CORE) Institute, led by Zaira Razu, is designed to engage in convergence research that is driven by a specific and compelling societal problem and requires deep integration across disciplines and sectors.
HPGeoC
The High Performance GeoComputing Lab (HPGeoC) and Intel Parallel Computing Center, led by Yifeng Cui, is conducting research and development in high performance computing, data intensive computing, and grid computing to support geoscience applications, with particular emphasis on computational seismology.
Spatial Information Systems Lab
The Spatial Information Systems Lab, led by Ilya Zaslavsky, conducts research and develops technologies and infrastructure that enable users to access, integrate and manage spatial information.
Structural Bioinformatics Lab
Peter Rose is the Director of the Structural Bioinformatics Laboratory at SDSC. Since joining SDSC in 2007, his group built the RCSB Protein Data Bank to its current strength as a key resource in biology and drug discovery.
WIFIRE Lab
To meet growing needs in hazards monitoring and response, the WIFIRE Lab, led by Ilkay Altintas, is an all hazards knowledge cyberinfrastructure, becoming a management layer from the data collection to modeling efforts.
Workflows for Data Science
The WorDS Center (Workflows for Data Science), led by Ilkay Altintas, assist researchers in creating workflows to better manage the tremendous amount of data being generated across a wide range of scientific disciplines, from natural sciences to marketing research.
