Subsurface Flow and Transport
A simulation by the Center for Subsurface Modeling at the University of Texas at Austin shows contours of constant permeability within a heterogeneous porous medium, which are colored according to the concentration of a tracer (red is high, magenta low). This type of visualization reveals at a glance the dominant conductive paths for flow and transport within the medium, providing greater insight into results from simulation of flow and transport in the Earth's subsurface.
